|A public meeting has been called to discuss the growing concerns over emergency ambulance provision in NW Sutherland.|
For some time now concern has been growing over the level of emergency ambulance cover provided to our area by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
Of the five ambulance staff based here two positions are currently vacant, one of which has been vacant for more than two years! Often there is only one member of staff available to crew the ambulance.
Our local ambulance staff are employed on a part-time contract making it difficult to recruit new staff - only three ambulance stations in the whole of Scotland operate like this. The ambulance crew at Lochinver, for instance, are employed on a full-time basis.
This meeting has been called by the Community Council to draw the community's attention to the problem.
Also attending will be Graham MacLeod, Head of A&E Services, who will be answering questions and explaining why this situation has arisen.
In addition to this it we have learned that the Scottish Air Ambulance will no longer land at Kinlochbervie helipad after dark which further adds to our concerns.
If you live in Kinlochbervie, Scourie, Durness, Achfary, or any of the other local communities please try to attend this meeting.
